Waikiki Beach

Think of Hawaii and your thoughts are likely to look a lot like Waikiki Beach. Despite its location in the city of Honolulu in Oahu, Waikiki is still very much a beach. The surf at Waikiki is famous for its long rolling break – perfect for all kinds of surfing. Surf competitions, outdoor performances, hula dancing and outrigger canoe races enliven this legendary place of relaxation. Once a retreat for Hawaiian royalty, the beach has magnificent views of Diamond Head, the dormant volcano.

Waikiki means “spouting fresh water” in Hawaiian; springs and streams once fed wetlands that separated Waikiki from the main island.
